The Karoo National Park South Africa,
fascinating "Things To Do"
The Karoo National Park offers a wide range of
great experiences and activities for those with adventurous hearts, but also for those with
inquisitive minds to satisfy.
Explore the stunning wildlife either from your own car or from one of the Park’s many safari
vehicles, or simply enjoy a scenic mountain drive.
Discover the fascinating mysteries of the Park?s fossilized history, the days when enormous
Dinosaurs andother huge mammals and amphibians were thumping their massive feet on the same ground
as you are walking on in the Park.
On the one side of the rest-camp not far from the camping sites, you can walk the "Fossil Trail"
a shorteducational route with displays of an impressive collection of fossilized whole skeletons,
skulls and bones from prehistoric times.
One of the most memorable items are the serrated-edged teeth of the carnivorous Gorgonopsid.

The walk is both enjoyable and interesting. Along the way you learn all about the formation of the fossils
and rocks of the Karoo over the years. The length of the trail is very short, only about 400 meters. The
time element depends on how interested and inquisitive you are.

In the Karoo National park you can do your own game drives in your own car, or in one the Park's open 4x4
safari vehicles with a professional game ranger. The latter is probably a better option, as the rangers
often spot things that you probably would have driven straight past and of course they also have lots of
interesting facts and stories to tell.

Any African wildlife safari is awesome stuff. Yet another great way of watching animals and spotting birds
in the Park is to go to the hide within walking distance from the main rest camp. The best times to go
would be either dusk or at dawn.
For some real hiking, there are two nature hiking trails, the short 800 metres Bossie Trail and the much
longer 10,3km Pointers hiking trail which includes a shorter 3,5km route. The Park offers great 4x4 routes
which give adventurous visitors a chance to experience the Karoo from behind the wheel.

This you can do either in your own vehicle or in one of the Park’s vehicles with a guide behind the steering
wheel. A scenic drive along the picturesque Klipspringer Pass with its environmentally friendly style of
construction and the scenic viewpoint at Rooivalle is a "must do".
