Marakele National Park accommodation
Marakele National Park accommodation, perfect
stage for an unforgettable African bush experience
The Marakele National Park accommodation
facilities are to be found in the only two rest camps that the Park has, the Bontle camping and
caravan site and the Tlopi tented camp.
The Park is 67 000 ha and is set in the heart of the Waterberg mountain range, in the Limpopo
province, in South Africa.
As it’s Tswana name suggests: Marakele is a "Place of Sanctuary" and the ideal setting for an
unforgettable african bush experience.
The Park is home to most of the large and small animals one would expect to find in the African
bush including the Big 5, offering great game-viewing opportunities.

Bontle camping and caravan site,...
The word "Bontle" comes from the language of the Tswana people and means "beautiful". Bontle rest camp is located in the
southern low-lying part of the park, also called "Kwaggasvlakte".
It is close to the entrance of the park, adjacent to the Park’s administration offices. The camp has many trees and most of the 38
available camping sites are well shaded. You will enjoy the delicious coolness during the heat of the day.

The camp truly does honor to its name, because it is indeed beautiful with an excellent lay-out. The ablution blocks are
designed to blend well into the surrounding landscape. The rest camp has one ablution block per 10 camping sites, which
means that it is never crowded.
They are comfortable, neat and clean with clean hot water and, also important, they are
wheelchair friendly. In addition they also have facilities to wash your dishes or your clothes.

Most of the camping sites in the rest camp overlook a waterhole which is situated quite close to the camping area. You
can watch the animals coming in to the waterhole to quench their thirst right from your tent.
Sometimes they move between the tents, because Bontle rest camp is not fenced. A fantastic experience and do not worry,
there are no predators in this part of the Marakele National Park.

Marakele National Park accommodation
Tlopi Tented camp is named after the Tlopi river, which feeds the dam. The word "Tlopi" is derived from the Tswana word
"Motlopi" (Witgat tree), which is the Tswana name for the Shepherd’s tree (Boscia albitrunca), which is quite common along
the banks of the Tlopi rover.
The Camp is situated approximately 17 km from the Reception Office. The camp is unfenced and consists of 10 spacious safari
tents, each one set up on a raised wooden deck (veranda) about 1,5 to 2 meters above the ground. The view from these
verandas is quite an experience.

The tents are very comfortable, well planned and very roomy with two separate living spaces, being the kitchen/dining area
and the bedroom/bathroom area and a full deck with a table and deck chairs that surrounds both with a "braai" (barbecue) in
the center. The tents are cleaned and serviced daily.
The bedroom has two single beds. There are also two stretchers available which are more suitable for children. They fit into
the bedroom with ease. You will love the bathroom, a separate shower and toilet and a built in bench complete with a rustic
washbasin made of galvanized sink.

The kitchen area contains a dining table, a well-sized fridge, basin, kettle, two plate stove, electricity and everything
else a person might need to whip up a fabulous bush dinner. Nice touches are the kitchen towels and dishwashing liquid.
Just imagine, here you are sitting on tour veranda in an unfenced safari camp, enjoying an ice-cold sundowner, watching the
animals coming to the dam to quench their thirst. What an experience getting so close to nature.

When it gets dark you fire up the barbecue, pour another drink and while the barbecue sizzles away, you look for animals
with your spotlight. If you are a stargazer you might have even brought your telescope along to enjoy the dark and clear
African sky.
