About the weather in Cape Town and the current
Cape Town weather forecast,
Check up on the current Cape Town weather forecast
on this page. The weather in Cape Town and the Peninsula consists of fantastic mediterranean summers,
cool and wet winters.
It differs considerably from the weather in the rest of South Africa, which is characterized by
its summer rainfall during the summer months of December to February.
The Cape Peninsula features Mediterranean kind of climate conditions, receiving the largest part
of its rainfall over the winter period June, July, August and to September.
Although the winters are generally wet, windy and cool, they have their own beauty with the
vegetation regaining its green freshness and the weather elements having their way.

The summer season which lasts from November through to March is warm and dry with very little rain. It is dominated by what
is known as the Atlantic-High, which is a high-pressure system situated over the South Atlantic ocean to the west of the
Cape coast.
It causes strong south easterly winds known as the “Cape Doctor” or “South Easter” because it clears the sky from air
pollution. Average temperatures tend to range between 19°C (66°F) and 35°C (95°F)

An interesting phenomenon is the influence the mountainous topography of the Peninsula has on the overall weather system,
in creating micro- or sub-climates in the region, which can differ dramatically between places at relatively short
distances.
You can start off with beautiful weather in the one place, only to end up in misty, rainy and windy cool conditions at
another place 20, 40 or 60 kms away.
